1. What’s the difference between National SHRM and Local SHRM?
National SHRM is the umbrella all local chapters are under. Wealth of information, visit www.SHRM.org to learn about being a national member and the tremendous benefits. Local chapter membership is a separate membership and affords local relationships and activities. Dues are completely separate for the memberships.
2. If I’m a member of National does that make me a local member?
No, but as a national member you are approved for membership to your local SHRM chapter
3. Is there a discount if I’m a national SHRM member?
Yes. As a national member we discount your dues as a local member
4. Do I have to be a national SHRM member to become this local chapter member?
No, an HR professional can be a local member and not a national member. (Service providers see below.)
5. As a service provider, do I have to be a national SHRM member to become a member of this local chapter?
Yes, all service providers must be a national SHRM member to join SOCT SHRM. One of the board’s goals for our chapter in 2015 is to increase our SHRM National Members. Accordingly, effective January, 2015, our SOCT SHRM membership policy has changed for General Members. In order to join the chapter, General Members must also be a member of SHRM National and designate SOCT SHRM as their chapter with our chapter #0133.
As per our by-laws, General Members are:
Individuals who support organizations by providing HR products and services including, but not limited to, the following areas: recruitment and staffing; outsourcing; payroll; HR information systems; workplace law; employee benefits and insurance; relocation; outplacement; training and coaching; and consulting. Individuals who demonstrate a bona fide interest in human resource management and the mission of the Chapter.
General members enjoy all benefits, rights and privileges of Chapter membership, including the right to vote in matters of Chapter business and hold elective office in the Chapter. General membership is limited to 25% of total Chapter membership, except as authorized by the Board of Directors. Everyone is invited to participate in our events whether a member or not.
6. How much are the dues for the Southern Connecticut Chapter?
Prices are subject to change and discounts are offered periodically. Generally, if you are a SHRM National member, annual chapter dues are $60 for the calendar year, January 1 through December 31. If you plan to join or are a member of the Southern Connecticut Chapter only (and not National SHRM), chapter dues are $80 yearly for the calendar year. However, individuals who apply for membership after June 15 pay half the regular dues PLUS full-year dues for the subsequent year. Members of SHRM national receive a 25% discount as follows:
Chapter members and national SHRM Members: $60 ($90 after June 1. Expires Dec 31 of the following year.)
Chapter members but not national SHRM Members: $80 ($120 after June 1. Expires Dec 31 of the following year.)
Student Members: $20 ($30 after June 1. Expires Dec 31 of the following year. )
